Last night on MSNBC’s All In With Chris Hayes, Dr. Anthony Fauci was interviewed by Chris Hayes about the impact of COVID-19 in America. In that interview, Fauci stressed that the safety and efficacy of a making and distributing a vaccine supersedes Trump’s rushed and politicized process. He strongly urged bars and restaurants to be closed to indoor dining in areas that are seeing COVID cases rise.

Zoë Richards at TPM on Fauci and vaccines:

Dr Anthony Fauci a leading expert on infectious diseases said Thursday night that he would be willing to vouch for the safety and efficacy of a vaccine when one becomes available, amid continued concern that politicization of the process by the Trump administration will lead to a rushed approval process.

When asked during an MSNBC interview on Thursday night if he would “take the heat” if corners had been cut or something was “wrong with the process,” Fauci told MSNBC’s Chris Hayes, “The answer, Chris, is yes.”

“If in fact, it looks like that vaccine is safe and effective, I can tell the American public that I will take the vaccine when it’s available to me, and I will recommend to my family that they take it,” Fauci who has been the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for more than 30 years, said.

The health expert also described a number of protections put in place to safeguard against the rushing of a vaccine that is unsafe.

Michelle Williams at MassLive on Fauci calling for bars and restaurants to be closed (especially for indoor dining) in areas of rising COVID cases:

Following a new study released by the Centers for Disease Control suggesting a connection between the spread of COVID-19 and going out to eat, the top immunologist in the nation has called for continued shutdowns.

In an interview with MSNBC, Dr. Anthony Fauci said bars and restaurants should remain closed until the spread of COVID-19 can be maintained in areas of the nation seeing rising cases.

‘When you have restaurants, indoors, in a situation where you have a high degree of infection in the community, you’re not wearing masks, that’s a problem,’ Dr Fauci said.

‘Bars are a really important place of spreading infection, there’s not doubt about that.’

Lauren Frias at Business Insider on Fauci’s praise for former Pence aide Olivia Troye:

Troye spoke in a scathing ad released Thursday, condemning President Donald Trump and his administration for their response to the coronavirus pandemic.

In an interview with MSNBC's Chris Hayes, Fauci declined to comment on the ad but described Troye as "important to the team."

"I interacted with Olivia. I liked her, she was a good person," Fauci said. "She was important to the team as a staff person to the coronavirus task force, but I don't know what to make of what has come out recently. It would be very difficult for me to comment on that."

"The only thing I can say is that there are a lot of people who are looking carefully and are driven by the truth," Fauci continued. "I think the American people should feel confidence in that — that a lot of people are looking at this very, very carefully to make sure that there's not political things that drive what should be scientific considerations."
